'Deferred success'

In a move to prevent children feeling bad about themselves, a leading teachers union at their annual conference proposed that instead of using the word 'failure' to descibe a student that had, well, failed a course the words 'deferred success' should be employed instead. Another example would be to describe the US led occupation of Iraq as an indefinitely deferred success.

They further proposed that if someone in the school died, that the students should be told that the deceased should be referred to as the 'deferred living'.

Slovakia and Hungary were issued warnings of big fines by the EU commission this week for failing to ratify all of a recent raft of maritime legislation. Both countries were warned that they must ratify those sections that deal with the ban dumping of toxic materials by their ships on their own shores. There's only one snag, both Slovakia and Hungary are landlocked and have no shoreline.

EU commissioners were adamant however, that countries could just pick and choose which parts of an EU ruling they ratify, even if it means the countries have to waste parliamentary time and money in implementing the legislation.

'Next they'll want to flood the market with bent cucumbers' a spokesperson said.

A man being tortured in a Pakistani jail (sponsored by the USA Army inc, 'fun holidays for innocent suspects' ) screamed so loudly that his torturers decided to sew his mouth closed with needle and thread. Later they were forced to admit him to hospital as their further 'work' on his body caused his mouth to tear open in his agony and he began to lose copious amounts of blood.

The man had been arrested in America for 'looking a bit shifty and knowing where the Middle East was' on a map.

A spokesman for the Pakistani military said that the incident was just a high spirited prank by a handful of soldiers that had gone wrong and wasn't indicative of the behaviour of the Iraqi army in general. They further announced that a full investigation would be held and insisted that nobody in a high rank would face charges.

'We follow the American example' he was quoted as saying.
