Happy slappy!

A new craze is sweeping Britain, know locally as 'happy slappy'. The idea is for a gang of youths to ambush an unsuspecting victim and then take a photograph of them with mobile phones. The photos are then sent to the perpetrators friends 'for a bit of a laugh'.

British transport police are investigating over 200 incidents of happy slapping incidents in the last six months alone. At first the craze seemed mostly harmless with victims being slapped to the ground with rolled magazines or newspapers, but things have taken a sinister turn as one clip 'doing the rounds' called Bitch Slap shows a woman being punched sqaurely in the face. Other clips show a mugging at a cashpoint, a boy in uniform being beaten up and a jogger being tripped and kicked as he lay on the ground.

Most incidents are not reported, the victims often feel foolish and humiliated. As one message circulating on a London forum put it,

'If you feel bored wen ur about an u got a video phone den bitch slap sum norman, innit'

Quite.

Two headed tortoise.

The two-headed tortoise

A two headed tortoise has been born in an incubator in Dorset, England. The tortoise appears to be perfectly normal apart form the two head. Each appears to have its own little brain, and sometimes they appear to compete for control of the body as one pulls towards a particular piece of food and the other towards a different piece of food. Sometimes they boths start munching on a piece of food and meet in the middle. The abnormality is thought to be congenital rather than a consequence of incubation.

Chimeras.

Ever heard of them? Chimera was the name given to a mythical monster that was part lion, part goat and part serpent.

Scientists have begun mixing human stem cells with embryonic animals to creat part human hybrids. Scientists can now genetically engineer mice to produce human sperm and eggs and then use in vitro fertilisation to produce a child who's parents are mice.

One scientist has produced a mouse that has 1% human brain cells, he wants to produce a mouse that has a brain made up of 100% human brain cells. He claims that if the mouse exhibits any human qualities that the mouse will be exterminated.

Two other scientists have filed a patent to produce a chimpanzee with a human brain, but the medical ethics commitee in his country ruled against the experiment. The two scientists involved actually had no intention of producing the human/chimp hybroid, but wanted to bring to peoples attention that in the US there is currently no law against producing such a hybrid and that the technology to do so is out there.
